Dear Austrians and friends of Austria in the Western United States!
First of all let me thank you for the many - and very encouraging - responses to our new electronic newsletter ´Connect:US-A´. We really appreciate your comments and ideas! In our August/September issue you will find some information about the Austrian Business Agency (Austria´s first business address for international investors); about new European movies and how you can see them in the United States; about a fascinating foto-exhibit about the Hungarian Revolution which is coming to Southern California as well as a conversation with Austrian Ski-legend - and successful businessman - Klaus Heidegger.
On the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution and the publication of his latest book "Revolution in Hungary: The 1956 Budapest Uprising", Austrian photographer and living legend Erich Lessing will be back in California. Many of you will recall his very touching exhibit "From Liberation To Liberty" which was shown at Stanford University and in Los Angeles last Fall.
The new Exhibit "Five Days of Freedom"
which features impressive and emotional images from that troubled time in our neighbouring country will be on display at the University of Southern California's Doheny Library www.usc.edu from September 17th through December 17th 2006 and at Stanford's Hoover Pavillion www.hoover.org from September 19th through December 2006.
The Austrian Business Agency (ABA), a government-operated consulting firm, is the international investor’s first business address in Austria. Founded in 1982, the Austrian Business Agency serves businesses worldwide with advice on all questions arising from foreign investment in Austria.
Klaus Heidegger: ski legend and succesfull businessman
The former Austrian slalom-star and now successful businessman - Klaus Heidegger - has lived in the United States for over 20 years (first in New York City and now in southern California). He has always made an impact, first on the slopes, then in the cosmetics industry and now with a new venture that could change your live (if you have problems with your back, anyway). Read more about Klaus Heidegger in the conversation he held with Consul General Martin Weiss.
Have you wondered how you could get to see all these wonderful European feature films that never make it into theaters in the U.S. in spite of winning awards all over the world ?
We have just learned about EUROCINEMA, a new distribution model via cable TV which brings you recent and classic European movies including, in the future, Austrian films. Read more on EUROCINEMA in this contribution by our fellow Austrian-American Nicole Goessringer
